Looking at all the PCBs, you probably could implement these with discrete resistors and that has been described several times over the years. You would start with the smallest (1/8w?) resistors you could find, mount them vertically in pins 2 through n and connect all the top leads together with a piece of 'L'-shaped wire going down into pin1. The pre-made part is just more convenient although it is a fair bit more expensive.
