Showcase reorganized

I spend some time reorganizing the showcase page on the Wiki.
It is basically to break the Equatorial section into many subsections, so people can find the info more easily.
For example, all the EQ5/CG5 are together, CGE/CGE Pro/CGEM together, and so on.

If you find any glaring errors, please let me know.

Had a few teething issues that were totally related to settings and me not exactly sure what I was doing. Nothing to do with the Onstep controller.
I now have a fully functional and working GoTo system on my eq3-2 mount. I can connect Stellarium over wi-fi from the laptop and all works perfectly.
Many thanks to George, Howard, Khalid and anyone who posted in assisting me with this build. Also thanks to Aisling for his Youtube videos which were a huge help!
I use 3-1 gearing via a 16 tooth and a 48 tooth pulley using 32 steps on the RA and 64 on the Dec in the config. Slewing speeds is 3deg which is spot on for me.
I had a great night testing, just slewing to different targets and being chuffed with myself when they appeared on the cameras screen :-)

I bought the STM32 kit and use LV8729 drivers.
Motors are NEMA 17 0.9A 0.9deg from ebay (no link as no longer available)
GT2 pulleys from here
Belts from here
Brackets for the motors were from Amazon. The RA motor uses two brackets fastened together (see images)

I did buy a small coupler to extend the RA shaft as the pulley wheel fouls the RA clutch lever on these mounts. Some people I have seen file the lever down but as I may want to sell the mount on in the future I opted for this instead. 
The cables were two ethernet cables I had at home which I hard wired at the motor end as the RJ45 jacks haven't turned up yet.


There are a few images of it at the following link. There is a little tidying up to be done and the STM32 is in a cardboard box until I source something better.

Gilberto,

The LV8729 is not suitable for high current motors.
If you plan on having the current above, say, 1.2A or so, then the LV8729 will be close to its limit.

If you need that high of a current, then the S109 is better.

Yes. This should work.

Another thing, I did not understand in the documentation why the TMC2208 drivers are not recommended. However, in the world of 3D printers they are acclaimed.

Don't use them.

Use the TMC2130 or TMC5160, they provide the same performance and are supported by OnStep.

Is there a way to return to the previously set home positions for the focusers in the Android app?
I know it can be done from within the Web server and I know the home position can be reset with a long press on the
focuser number selector buttons. How about return to home position?

After thinking about it, I would like to make an Onstep solution with the CNC version for my NEQ5. For the purchase of the card, is it suitable ( Aliexpress link ) ?

I my case, I am using MKS Gen L v1 so I'm assuming 5.0 volts. Don't know if this is ok!...
Hope somebody has more specific information for MKS Gen L board...

There is another issue to further complicate matters. If the supply voltage is 3.3v (vdd) as it is on the MaxESP2 then the maximum vref is 0.97v with the 0.1Ω resistors this is 1.0A current. Only if it is 5.0v is the max current (1.5A) achievable. This works for the steppers I have, I just set the pot to max and go. For others I am sure this will eliminate the LV8729 from their acceptable driver list.

I cannot say if this is true on all of the LV8729 chips, just reporting the issue on mine.

We have several telescopes with very long focal lengths at our observatory. Among other things we have a 10 inch "Kutter Schiefspiegler"  with 5 meters focal length, which we use for planet observation. Since we have only encoders with 2048 PPR in the axes, the twisted object is often not visible in the eyepiece. Here a spiral search would be very advantageous, which drives from the inside to the outside. When the object is visible, you can stop the search by pressing a button.
I don't know how much effort it would take to implement something like this, but it would be very good if this functionality would exist sometime.
