One more thing to remember for the large mount.

Remember the fact that the 200" aperture (5 meter) Palomar reflector used a 1/12 horse power motor for decades.

https://sites.astro.caltech.edu/palomar/about/telescopes/hale.html#mountdome

Yes, your home made mount may not be as smooth, but it should not be rough or coarse either.

Re: SHC vs Losmandy "dumb" hand controller setup

George Cushing

Q1: Maybe. a true Losmandy 492 paddle dead ends the #6 pin. The OnStep BHC uses the power for an LED as does the CI 700 and Celestron Ultima PEC. Some guiders may be damaged by the 5V. For a BHC or 492 paddle I leave the jumper on.

Q2: I set the Config:

#define ST4_INTERFACE                 ON
#define ST4_HAND_CONTROL       ON
and use the BHC an SHC interchangeably when testing boards.

oic. so I can use notebook power source as Khalid suggested and step it up. Only If I need more watts (using more auxs and so on) I may need to switch to some lab power source like 200w or so I think. Thank you for helpin' me ;) I'm getting very excited about onStep project now ;) a lot of power in my hands now ;) THX!

yah I see - I think I can prepare some mini board copy of TMC to fit the holes. Very useful infos, thaks a lot

It can be done by Dupont wires, but those may not be the most secure.
Thereofore, I recommend that you cut a perfboard with the same dimensions as a StepStick drivers, and solder pins to it, and wires to the Step and Dir. More secure that way.

If I understand right aux fans, heaters and so on can be used and controlled using mosfet onboard so S6 can controll also heater (as you use it on your video) and fans (mirror etc) just by setting it in config file before upload to S6.
Yes.
A simple dew heater requires no additional hardware. Maybe an RCA female jack but nothing else.
You can make a more sophisticated heater by adding a BME280 SPI sensor (temperature/humidity/pressure), and a thermometer that measures the element of concern.
All this works, as well as fans.
So I ordered S6 and TMCs and steppers and now have to wait sooooo long to test it ;) Enough time to study more... There is also some hot bed voltage output full of amps - can this be used for rolloff roof for example too?

I'm also going to provide 24V power supply as mentioned before. Could you please recommend appropriate power source?

Since I need 12V for other things around the telescope (dew heaters, computers, cameras, etc.) I use 12V and step it up.  These work:

Re: Question on Interfaces to OnStep

George Cushing

John, not with the $7.95 postage. If I buy 15, then yes, they are about $20, a little over 50 cents each for the postage.
The math: 15 X $19.95 + $7.95 X1.08 (tax) = 331.67 / 15 = 22.11.

If you've got a way to beat that price let me know.

Configuration of the Aux features is described in this Wiki https://onstep.groups.io/g/main/wiki/19055 (pay no attention to the name 'master' - it was written back in the day when this way of configuring aux features was new when 4.x was the master).

The S6 pinmap defines Fan0Pin, Fan1Pin and Fan2Pin for use as the FEATUREn_PIN.

If you use beta (4.x) you can configure a fan as a FEATURE in Config.h.

Alternately, you can just use BigTreeTech TMC5160 V1.2, and not add a fan at all.

OK, you posted this while I was writing my previous essay....  Still I would like to see that test I described to see if the motor shafts actually move, but if the voltage is not dropping then extend the tests to 30-60 seconds to see if we see motion.

Re: Fans & Leds #fysetc #S6

Is it a 5V or 12V fan?  5V you can just plug it into any 5V pin on the S6.  12V may be tricky if you are going to power the S6 from a higher voltage as I am not sure if ther is a 12V regulator.  But it should be fine f you can use a 12V source.

Strange looking for us northerners to see an EQ mount laying down almost in an ALT-AZ configuration but Bogota is only 4.7 degrees north.

Congratulations!

The cases we had with not finding the include files usually involved a botched IDE configuration, or improperly extracted zip file.

See the many messages that have the topic.

Did you try with both the limit switch and home switch enabled? I'm still getting the error. Apparently they both try to use Aux3

Yeah that's not it. It just occasionally decides to forget where the include files are
