I use a 10:1 precision planetary on a NEMA17 motor. Adding a planetary will slow down the slew rate, but then everything is a tradeoff anyway. I am not trying to swing at a baseball with my scope, so

OnStep final installation mystery
Guy, From your video, it sounds like your motors are stalling during guiding. What are your current targets for the motors during slew and guide? With those TB6600, do you even have that selection? As

Chad, Take the lemons and make lemonaid. You have some nice proven concepts you are embracing, and I think some of the criticism you are getting are people trying to help you avoid pitfalls, although

Chad, Are you using the 160T as your primary gear, equivalent to a worm/worm wheel combo? Others have done well with a 360:1 and 400step motor and 32 or 64 micro-stepping. There is a company called Av

From my photography days, I don't think the Majestic was designed for more than 20lbs or so. They were for large 8x10 (max) view cameras. I don't think the gears will handle it (they might strip), and

Confusion at very first hurdle
I found these guys to have a small supply of pulleys and a very good supply of GT2 belts in 2mm increments. They have 1/4" bore (6.35mm) and 60T. Some are in 9mm wide, which can still be used with 6mm

There is tremendous resistance to planetary gearboxes (or any gearbox for that matter), vs a 3:1 or 4:1 belt reduction. But if you do decide on a planetary, get a good one. Stepperonline has precision
