Death in the Family
I bought something like this digital display soldering iron for $12 and have been happy with it. No great loss (other than replacement time) should this puppy die on me: https://www.amazon.com/Liouhou

Need advice on motor
I'm intrigued by the photo of the RA gearbox. Is that two motors connected by a differential? I'm guessing that the one on the right would be a stepper for fast slewing, and the left one a servo motor

Simulate Alt/Azm movements in Equatorial mounts?
The Skywatcher AZ-EQ6 Pro (and some other mounts) has this capability. Essentially, you crank the altitude screw until the RA axis goes vertical. But it doesn't use OnStep, does it?

Setting up autoguiding, advice?
One last piece of advice: don't bother with a finder scope, or even a red dot finder. Instead, learn how to use plate solving. And learn drift alignment in PhD2 if you don't have direct access to Pola
