CGEM Onstep conversion

KPK Those motors are full on. I'm only using 17HM19-2004S with TMC2209 drivers running at ~50-60% of max current. Good enough for faux-narrowband running 10min subs. See my last image on astrobin. Chr

I wasn't sure what version I was running and just had a look. I'm still at 3.16 and noticed that 4.24 is the current one ! Haven't changed anything else on mine. Chris

CGEM mounts and brackets for 3D Printing
Nice design. Agree about having the freecad etc files. It's really annoying when there are just STL files. So I hope mine are up there!

And yes. I mostly use it with SGPro but have also tried it with nina. I'm sure it will work with ASIair, but others would know more about that Chris

Klaas Onstep certianly improves the CGEM. At its best I was getting around 1arcsec rms tracking error in PHD2. Its now half that with the onstep conversion. At a focal length of 1m (with an 8" F5 newt

I've added a link in the onstep modification to my CGEM in the showcase. This points to a shared drive I've set up which has (or will have) instructions for the onstep modification, general disassmebl

The first thing you can do is check & adjust the backlash. There's virtually no disassembly required for this. You’ll need: metric Allen keys, screwdrivers, and Superlube or grease for motor/worm cogs

As Khlaid said, if you want to onstep it you have to go the whole hog. Replace motors with steppers and use some sort of onstep controller. Then you can keep the celestron motors/controller for when y

I don't think there's a good guide on CGEM disassembly and maintenance, probably because theres a commercial products/guide from deepspaceproducts? If you want to splash the cash everyone says its goo

Very nice. What gear ratio have you used? I've got 48:15 in mine but thinking of changing to 60:15. It's just a bit of a squeeze to fit in the larger pulley Chris
